The fine of 20,000 US dollars imposed on Sri Lanka by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for alleged default has been reduced to 5000 dollars with the intervention of Jaswar Umar, the former president of the Sri Lanka Football Confederation.

According to an appeal submitted by executive member of the Asian Football Confederation Jaswar Umar,  to the Asian Football Confederation, the Asian Football Confederation's Disciplinary Committee has taken this decision. It has also decided to pay the rest of the $15,000 fine suspended for two years.

If the SL Football Federation fails to participate in international tournaments within next 2-year period, Sri Lanka football will have to pay the full fine.

It was confirmed that the Sri Lanka youth football team will participate in this tournament which was held in Uzbekistan from 5th to 9th October 2022, but at the last moment the trip was canceled. The disciplinary committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which has conducted an investigation in this regard, imposed a fine of US$20,000 on Sri Lanka on the charge of violating the rules of the competition. In addition to this, it was revealed that they are considering imposing a ban for participating in the upcoming tournament.

The Sri Lanka Under-17 Football National Team could not participate in the Asian Cup tournament held in Uzbekistan due to the conflict between the Ministry of Sports and the Sri Lanka Football Federation.
