Sri Lanka's participation in the athletics events of the Youth Commonwealth Games came to an end early this morning. Despite many obstacles, the Sri Lankan athletes won a silver medal and a bronze medala at Commonwealth Youth Games 2023.

Ayomal Akalankah won the silver medal in the men's hurdles event and Nilupul Phasara won the bronze medal in the men's high jump event.

Lesendu Arthawidu won the fourth place in the men's high jump event and Shalani Hansika won the fourth place in the women's 400m hurdles event.

Overall, 5 athletes participated in this tournament for athletic events, out of which two won medals and two got fourth places.

But the sad thing is that there is not even one coach with these athletes when they compete. Due to delays in obtaining visas, the coach, the women's team officer and the coordinator lost the opportunity to join the tournament.

Among our athletes who also missed out on the opening ceremony, Shalani Hansika took part in her long jump event just hours after arriving in Trinidad and Tobago after a long and tiring flight. It was in the background that athletes from other countries had come to the country a few days ago and were preparing for the tournament.
