A gold medal for Sri Lanka from Nadeesha Ramanayake

Sri Lanka's Nadeesha  won the gold medal in the women's 400m event at the Asian Athlatic Championships in Thailand today. Nadeesha clocked 52.61 seconds. It is her new personal best and the third best by Sri Lankan women in the 400m.

Nadesha Ramanayake becomes the 8th Sri Lankan to win a gold medal at the Asian Championships.

Sri Lanka's last gold medal in the women's 400m event was by current record holder Damayanthi Darsha at the 2000 Asian Championships. Accordingly, it is the gold medal received after 23 years.

Meanwhile Aruna Darshan and Rajitha Rajakaruna, who participated in the men's 400m final, had to settle for seventh and eighth places respectively.
