St. Peter’s cruised to a huge ten wickets win over Dharmaraja, De Mazenod stunned St. Joseph Vaz’s and D.S. Senanayake and St. Sebastian’s settled for a thrilling tie in the Under 19 Division I tournament and traditional matches which continued on Wednesday.
Left-arm spinner Shennon Rodrigo and leg-spinner Vishen Halambage were the heroes for St. Peter’s as they picked up five wicket hauls to trouble Dharmaraja in the Tier ‘B’ encounter which ended with many overs remaining in the final session.
After the visitors were bowled out for 150 and 115 runs the Petes had only 14 runs to chase. The outright victory will help them improve their rankings in group ‘X’. At Kandana, Kavindu Kaushalya and Sithum Fernando shared seven wickets between them for De Mazenod to rattle St. Joseph Vaz’s for 60 runs in the second innings and record a thrilling victory. At D.S. Senanayake College Ground, Sandeesh Fernando bagged nine wickets for St. Sebastian’s to get almost close to victory. Later chasing a target of 102 runs to win the Sebs were stranded at 101 for six wickets at close.
